I came across this post on Reddit and was quite amazed at what I was reading. An anonymous person had written about how she had just been informed that she has liver cancer and it is quite advanced. She was asking for advice on how to tell her loved ones that she is going to die within the next couple of months. She stated that she can’t get any treatment because the doctors told her that they can’t operate and she doesn’t have the health insurance or money to receive any other positive treatments.
What came after that is simply amazing in showing the power that social media has. There were hundreds of responses from med students, doctors and people that just wanted to help in any way possible. People were posting alternative ways of receiving insurance or money to get treatment while others were posting their blood type, lifestyle and contact info informing this person that they were willing to be a liver donor for her. Some were trying to figure out a way to start up a fund for her when people were saying that they could donate monetarily.
With some further research I have found out that this story is a total fake. Regardless of that, the responses were real and its stories like this that really showcase the power that social media has…
